The patent text in English and Arabic is required to be submitted at the time of filing.

We handle translations of patent text from English to Arabic Possible to file with amended claims.

Please note that there are no declared/announced fees for excess claims at the time of filing. However, please be advised that the examination charges of Saudi patent applications are calculated by the concerned Examiner based on criteria, including the number of claims.

Please note that filing a request for examination is not applicable since the Saudi Patent Office is examining the applications in chronological order, and an official notification to pay the examination fees will be issued once the application is turned over for examination.

Before turn the application for examination.

Substantive examination will be conducted if the fee is paid within three months from notification, regarding the official examination fees, which may vary due to the complexity of each application.

Two substantive examinations are usually conducted. The applicant has the chance to amend the application up to the second examination report. After the second examination, the decision will be issued. Late payment is allowed within three months from March 31st each year, with double the official fees.

  • 1. A clear copy of the industrial design preferably in JPG/JPEG format. If it is three-dimensional (3D), copies of each view of the model are required.
  • 2. A short description of the design, including its uses. For three-dimensional (3D) designs, descriptions of each view of the design are required.

Notarized Power of Attorney executed by the applicant/Deed of Assignment (if applicable) executed by the designer(s) duly Apostilled or legalized up to the Saudi Arabian Consulate, are required within 90 days from the application filing date.

We require only e-copies of the documents. The original documents are not required unless the Saudi Patent Office (SAIP) requests the same for verification purposes.
Yes, if claiming priority , A certified copy of the priority document(s) and its English translation is required (if it is not in English). As per the new practices of SAIP, an Arabic translation of the priority document should be submitted in order to avoid formality objections.
